Packaging systems and graphic design
La Biosthétique (at Monto, under art direction of Patrick de la Rue Roppel)
Design and technical development of packaging layouts within the corporate design system of La Biosthétique, a premium skin and haircare brand defined by strict typographic and production standards.
The work involved translating brand guidelines into print-ready artwork across multiple product formats, including bottles, tubes and containers. Each layout was developed to function within precise spatial and typographic constraints while maintaining consistency across product lines and international variations.
A central aspect of the process was the interpretation of technical drawings and supplier specifications. Layouts were constructed based on real packaging dimensions, including cylindrical formats derived from circumference calculations. Printable areas, margins and alignment axes were defined in relation to production tolerances, ensuring that the design translated accurately from digital layout to physical object.
To support this, technical sheets (techsheets) were developed as internal reference systems. These documented proportions, print areas and alignment structures, enabling consistent application of the design system and clarity across production processes.
The typographic system required rigorous handling: controlled hierarchy, precise spacing, and strict alignment rules. Micro-adjustments in kerning, line length and positioning were essential to maintain visual balance within predefined constraints.
Applications included:
- Packaging layouts across product lines
- Print-ready artwork for production
- Technical sheets for layout and alignment control
- Supporting campaign and product visuals
- Product photography and image editing
- Social media assets
- Visual merchandising elements
The project examines how graphic systems operate under industrial conditions — where design is shaped not only by visual intention, but by material constraints, scale, and production logic.”
